{"id":180500,"date":"2026-02-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=180500"},"modified":"2026-02-13T16:05:41","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T05:05:41","slug":"chocolaterie-scoops-out-an-ice-cream-celebration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/chocolaterie-scoops-out-an-ice-cream-celebration\/","title":{"rendered":"Chocolaterie scoops out an ice cream celebration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUMMER is a little sweeter along the Great Ocean Road this month as the annual Ice Cream Festival makes its delicious return.<\/p>\n<p>The 12-day festival, held at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, is a celebration of all things ice cream \u2013 from classic scoops to inventive flavours dreamed up by chocolatiers and customers.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its ninth year, the festival has become a much-loved tradition for locals and holidaymakers.<\/p>\n<p>Marketing manager Lee Wilkinson said the idea began as a way to &#8220;put ice cream on the front page&#8221; of the factory.<\/p>\n<p>The festival has been growing ever since, with flavour concepts being trialled throughout the year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/02\/IceCreamFestivalatVi_54806.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Throughout the year, the team experiments with and tastes a series of flavours to perfect the limited edition selection for the festival.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a tough gig having to taste them, but someone&#8217;s got to do it!&#8221; Wilkinson joked.<\/p>\n<p>Starting on Wednesday this week, this year&#8217;s lineup features 10 limited edition festival flavours, which visitors can sample in hosted tasting sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors can also create their own chocolate sauce to take home or visit the brand-new Scoop Lab, where they can build personalised sundaes in a waffle cup.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also a mystery flavour challenge. Those who correctly guess it will win a tub of ice cream every month for a year.<\/p>\n<p>For Wilkinson, the highlight is always the flavours that &#8220;mess with your mind&#8221; with colours that don&#8217;t match the flavour, or unexpected flavour combinations.<\/p>\n<p>One of her favourites this year is a mango, chilli and lime sorbet that starts out sweet and icy cold before ending with a touch of heat.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/02\/IceCreamFestival_Fla_54805.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery is hosting its annual Ice Cream Festival this February.
