SURFCOAST Basketball Association is offering a fresh initiative for locals aged 55 and over, with their Walking Basketball program making it easier than ever to stay moving and connected.<\/p>\n

Hosted at Wurdi Baierr Stadium, Walking Basketball is a program from Basketball Victoria that involves getting over-55-year-olds up and active through light basketball drills and scrimmages.<\/p>\n

The initiative kicked off earlier in February and will run for three more weeks, with Surfcoast Basketball Association offering it for free throughout the term to entice the community to give it a go.<\/p>\n

“We’re looking for people who may not still be involved actively in sports but want to do something,” said Association Secretary, Bec Lewis.<\/p>\n

“You don’t need to know anything about basketball, you don’t even have to have played it before.<\/p>\n

“It’s really simple, low impact and fun and social more than anything. You’ll get great benefits from it physically and socially”<\/p>\n

Lewis said there had been positive feedback about the program, which perfectly fit into the club’s mantra.<\/p>\n

“We’re just getting it started, but the response has been really good.<\/p>\n

“We’ve already formed some really good relationships with people and it’s bringing in a whole new demographic to our community which is fantastic.<\/p>\n

“It’s great in keeping that over 55 generation active, I think it really aligns with our values.”<\/p>\n

Sessions run weekly on Tuesdays from 10.30am to 11.30am, followed by morning tea.<\/p>\n
