{"id":181512,"date":"2026-03-02T14:22:50","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T03:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=181512"},"modified":"2026-03-02T14:38:02","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T03:38:02","slug":"australian-rock-legends-to-play-at-rip-curl-pro-bells-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/australian-rock-legends-to-play-at-rip-curl-pro-bells-beach\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian rock legends to play at Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The World Surf League (WSL) will celebrate its 50th year of crowning world champions with a free gig featuring legendary Australian bands Spiderbait and Wolfmother at the site of the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.<\/p>\n<p>The 31 March event will start what is expected to be an exciting year for the WSL Championship Tour, with Bells Beach to open the season.<\/p>\n<p>Alternative rockers Spiderbait have been on the airwaves for more than three decades with their infectious energy, genre-blending sound and enduring crowd anthems.<\/p>\n<p>Best known for hits such as Black Betty and Shazam!, the band&#8217;s dynamic performance style has won them fans across Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Spiderbait drummer and co-vocalist Kram said Bells Beach was &#8220;sacred ground&#8221;, so to play at the Rip Curl Pro was a real honour.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bells Beach has its own magic, and playing there is going to be something special. We\u2019re stoked to be part of the WSL celebrations and crank it up for everyone. This one\u2019s going to be classic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Led by Andrew Stockdale, Wolfmother are one of Australia&#8217;s most electricfying rock exports.<\/p>\n<p>The band are well regarded for their thunderous riffs, soaring vocals and explosive performance.<\/p>\n<p>Their high-energy sound and commanding stage presence has seen them rock out festivals all over the world, as well as major events such as the AFL Grand Final and NRL State of Origin.<\/p>\n<p>Stockdale said fans could expect a powerhouse set at Bells Beach, packed with hits and raw rock intensity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wow, 50 years young and still shredding.
