{"id":182915,"date":"2026-03-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=182915"},"modified":"2026-03-19T10:35:42","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T23:35:42","slug":"torquay-bowls-club-rolls-its-way-to-three-flags","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/torquay-bowls-club-rolls-its-way-to-three-flags\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay Bowls Club rolls its way to three flags"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY Bowls Club have enjoyed a jam-packed fortnight across their 2026 Pennant campaigns, securing three premierships across three divisions.<\/p>\n<p>The club&#8217;s Weekend Division Two and Eight teams both claimed victories over Geelong and Drysdale respectively, whilst the Midweek Division Six overcame St Leonards on the last ball of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Five of the club&#8217;s 13 teams reached grand finals and seven made finals, indicating the widespread bowling depth on display.<\/p>\n<p>Bowls president Joe Issell is proud of the achievement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the last six seasons, we&#8217;ve won 14 premierships. It&#8217;s a pretty good record!&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_183090\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-183090\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-183090\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/IMG_2434_90731-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"414\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-183090\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Weekend Pennant Division Eight beat Drysdale.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s always exciting for the club. It doesn&#8217;t matter which division it is, it could be a top side or a lower side, the grand finals mean the same to us.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of players who weren&#8217;t playing finals were out supporting our other teams, so the atmosphere was fantastic. We&#8217;ve got a great community club and everybody gets behind everybody, we just support each other.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The club is entirely run by volunteers, with Issell thanking all those involved for their contributions over the season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One thing we put our success down to is our volunteers,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_183091\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-183091\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-183091\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/IMG_2432_91852-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"481\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-183091\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Weekend Pennant Division Two beat Geelong.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They put in so many hours and help out in all different aspects of our bowls program. Without them, we wouldn&#8217;t be the club that we are.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s where our continued success comes from, year in year out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Issell said the club was now looking ahead to next season, which starts later this year, and hoped to bring in a bowls coordinator to oversee the program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the moment we don&#8217;t pay anybody, but we do want to get a paid coordinator in and then in the next 48 months hopefully a coach,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;ll drive us to where we want to be \u2013 we&#8217;re in the premier division, we&#8217;re one of the big four clubs in Geelong and we just want to keep building.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY Bowls Club have enjoyed a jam-packed fortnight across their 2026 Pennant campaigns, securing three premierships across three divisions.
