TORQUAY Rotary has raised $10,000 for bushfire relief through its annual book fair, held in January, with funds set to support Victorian communities impacted by recent fires.<\/p>\n
Club president Kelly Binyon said the result reflected the Surf Coast’s strong willingness to support those in crisis close to home.<\/p>\n
Funds will be distributed via $500 debit cards, allowing families to spend the support where it is most needed. Local Rotary groups in affected areas will assess need and help coordinate distribution.<\/p>\n
Binyon thanked the many contributors behind the event’s success.<\/p>\n
“Massive thanks to all involved: members, Friends of Rotary, Surf Coast Secondary College for the venue, Story Dogs and all attendees,” she said.<\/p>\n
“The Torquay community also deserves recognition for the incredible number of books donated this year.<\/p>\n
“Together we created a fantastic event that was embraced by the community. Thank you for your continued support \u2013 we’re hoping to be even bigger and better in 2027.”<\/p>\n
Torquay Rotary is also exploring additional medium- to long-term projects to support affected communities.<\/p>\n
Rotary Australia World Community Service deputy project leader Heather Chong said the initiative highlighted the strength of grassroots support.<\/p>\n
