A man has been arrested following a dramatic police incident in Jan Juc that unfolded across the Great Ocean Road region over two days.<\/p>\n
Police allege officers first encountered the 27-year-old Grovedale man on 25 March about 7am, when they conducted checks on a parked Subaru Impreza along the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n
During the checks, officers allegedly identified the driver as being wanted on outstanding matters and moved to prevent him from leaving.<\/p>\n
Police boxed in the vehicle and deployed a tyre deflation device, however the situation quickly escalated.<\/p>\n
The driver allegedly woke and attempted to flee, ramming a police divisional van.<\/p>\n
Two officers were forced to jump clear of the vehicle to avoid being struck.<\/p>\n
Police then tracked the Subaru along the Great Ocean Road, with stop sticks successfully deployed near Yuulong about 12pm.<\/p>\n
The man allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into dense forest, sparking a search of the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
Officers were initially unable to locate him, but continued enquiries into his whereabouts.<\/p>\n
The search resumed the following morning when police received a tip-off from a member of the public at a caf\u00e9 in Lavers Hill about 8.30am.<\/p>\n
Local officers from Colac and Birregurra coordinated a response, surrounding the area and locating the man inside a public toilet block.<\/p>\n
He was arrested without incident.<\/p>\n
The Grovedale man remains in custody and is expected to be interviewed by police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
