THE Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club has invited competitors and teams from along the coast to take part in a lifesaving carnival next month.<\/p>\n
The Remembrance Day Carnival is being organised to be held on Torquay surf beach on November 11 this year – the 100-year anniversary of the end of World War I.<\/p>\n
Torquay SLSC members Arnie Altman and Peter Doyle are helping to organise the carnival, inviting clubs from as far away as Warrnambool and several from Melbourne, and say it will be flexible to what the competitors themselves want to do.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll meet here at 10am, we\u2019ll see how many turn up, and at 11.15am we\u2019ll have a carnival,\u201d Mr Doyle said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll talk to the team managers and it\u2019s their go; we\u2019ll go along with what they want to do and run a carnival to suit them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not taking down names of competitors like we normally do at normal carnivals \u2013 we want it to be low-key so they can get in the water, have a heap of competition, and at the end of the day they go home exhausted.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt really is a day for the competitors rather than us,\u201d Mr Altman added.<\/p>\n
Torquay SLSC will provide lunch afterwards.<\/p>\n
The Torquay RSL and local traders are supporting the carnival.<\/p>\n
