A NEW\u00a0 automated library kiosk is giving Birregurra locals easy access to borrowing and reservation.<\/p>\n
The facility at the Birregurra Community Health Centre in Strachan Street has expanded library options for those living in the area.<\/p>\n
Readers can collect reservations, browse available titles on a screen, check them out with a library card and return items easily.<\/p>\n
It will support library programs such as Early Years Story Time and partnerships with the kindergarten, Colac Area Health, and the Colac Otway Shire.<\/p>\n
The kiosk will replace the fortnightly mobile library visit but a Geelong Regional Libraries staff member will still attend regularly to restock items, deliver programs and offer support.<\/p>\n
Minister for Local Government Nick Staikos officially opened the kiosk last month.<\/p>\n
“Libraries offer free public access to information and technology, literacy support, training development and provide a safe, supported community space for local people to engage in a wide range of activities,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Libraries are about so much more than books \u2013 they contribute to the connections that strengthen and enrich Victorian communities.”<\/p>\n
The Victorian government put $25,332 towards the Birregurra project, while the Geelong Regional Library Corporation contributed $12,666.<\/p>\n
“The new library kiosk at Birregurra will give residents greater access to print and digital information, and support a culture that values reading, learning and social connection,” Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said.<\/p>\n
