VISITORS and part-time residents in Lorne looking to get rid of their excess rubbish will have to find a new spot, with the town\u2019s waste point to be relocated.<\/p>\n
The site will be shifted from Grove Road (near the Lions Club headquarters) to the transfer station entrance at 370 Erskine Falls Road.<\/p>\n
According to the Surf Coast Shire, signs were to be installed at the Grove Road site as of last week advising of the intent to close the site by November 2.<\/p>\n
The move follows a similar relocation at Anglesea.<\/p>\n
The shire says it is acting on both sites \u201cto meet planning scheme requirements and in response to community concerns that they have been at times unsightly\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe drop-off points are provided for part-time residents and visitors for depositing small amounts of waste and recycling when they are unable to meet regular collection schedules.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately they have also been used at times by some people who dump large amounts of rubbish and hard rubbish.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople can be fined for illegal dumping.<\/p>\n
\u201cMoving to the site near Lorne Transfer Station will help the council manage drop-offs more efficiently.<\/p>\n
A sign will remain at the former site for several months to inform part-time residents of the shift. The newly-located drop-off point will open only when the Lorne transfer station is closed.<\/p>\n
If part-time residents wish to drop off rubbish and recyclables when the drop-off point is closed, they should take them to the transfer station.<\/p>\n
People will need to continue to observe drop-off limits, with charges applied for more than two small bags of rubbish and a small amount of recyclables.<\/p>\n
The Lorne transfer station is open from 9am-noon on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and from 2-5pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
