The day is a new addition to the annual golfing calendar, with all Curlewis juniors with a handicap eligible to take part in the field. Sienna had an outstanding round with 43 Stableford points, and backs up her 2025 victory in the inaugural event with a margin of 8 points from second place Mathena Chan.<\/p>\n<p>The boys were a bit of a tighter battle with Frankie finishing on 38 points; just 2 points clear of Frank Brown and Ryder Brunato who rounded out second and third. Curlewis has more than 50 juniors with valid handicaps in the Flyers Membership category, and it is amazing to see these kids come together for events in a semi competitive but fun environment throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>The next junior event held at Curlewis will be on 10 May, which is a TeeMates event run by Golf Australia with member and visitor junior\u2019s welcome to register. The TeeMates event will be in the format of Stroke for players with a handicap of 20 or less, and Stableford for handicaps of 20.1 or more. For more information or to enter, search TeeMates or find it via <a href=\"http:\/\/golf.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>golf.com.au<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sands<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A full week of competition delivered strong fields and tightly contested results across multiple formats, with several winners decided on countback.<\/p>\n<p>Monday 30 March saw a medley Stableford event produce a dead heat at the top, with Ryan Lavery (11) edging out Seamus Ryan (19) on countback after both players finished on 40 points.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/IMG_9312_70636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Frankie and Sienna Dimasi, who prior to Easter school holidays took out the 2nd annual Curlewis Junior Flyers Medal. Photo: Curlewis Golf Club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday 31 March featured a nine-hole medley Stableford (holes 1-9), where Joan Anderson (13) claimed A Grade honours with 20 points on countback from Adam Thomas (9). In B Grade, Sandra Settle (15) posted an impressive 23 points to win comfortably ahead of Trevor Westacott (14) on 21.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday 1 April delivered one of the most competitive days of the week in a medley Stableford. In A Grade, three players finished on 38 points, with Ry Davies (3) taking the win on countback from Brian Kruger (10), while Brett Balloch (4) placed third. Darren McCallum (13) led B Grade with a standout 42 points, ahead of Charlie Celi (13) on 41 and Dean Bryden (15) on 39. In C Grade, Chris Riley (29) prevailed on countback from Peter Conquest (21), both with 37 points, while Anthony Zalakos (23) also finished on 37.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday 2 April was reserved for the women\u2019s Pinehurst event from the red tees, where Trish Appleby and Danielle Walker combined superbly to post 44 points and secure victory. Jennifer Nolan and Andrea Harvey finished runners up with 34, while Donna Reilly and Susan Browne placed third with 33.<\/p>\n<p>Friday 3 April returned to a medley Stableford format. Matthew Chalmers (8) took out A Grade with 38 points, one clear of Mitchell Gilbert (8). In B Grade, Gerrard Daniels (12) and Stuart Kitchin (15) both finished on 41 points, with Daniels winning on countback. Andrew Corbett (35) produced the best score of the day in C Grade with 42 points, ahead of Nicholas Berryman (22) on 41.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday 4 April featured a men\u2019s Stableford competition, where A Grade was tightly contested. Ben Coffey (6) claimed victory on countback from Chris Burke (4) after both returned 37 points, while Mark Tomasevic (8) finished third with 35. Thomas Kerrigan (19) won B Grade with 38 points, ahead of Peter Barton (12) on 36 countback from Ric Thompson (17). In C Grade, Ian Davis (24) scored 38 points to win, with Steven Sikora (29) runner up on 36 countback from Jarrod Moore (26).<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s Stableford on Saturday saw Judy Hodgkins (40) take the win with 37 points, followed by Joan Anderson (26) on 36 and Karen Lombardi (16) on 35.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday 5 April wrapped up the week with another medley Stableford. Riley Dean (10) led A Grade with 41 points, ahead of Nathan King (8) on 39. Cobus Lotheringen (14) matched that winning total in B Grade, with Craig Fowler (19) runner up on 38. In C Grade, David Pemberton (21) posted 32 points to win, ahead of Lachie Cumming (24) on 31.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Torquay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A busy week of competition produced a mix of high scores and tight finishes across both men\u2019s and women\u2019s events.<\/p>\n<p>Monday 30 March featured a medley Stableford, where Brian Bennett (28) led the way with 40 points to claim the men\u2019s event, finishing two clear of Michael Kirkham (16) on 38. In A Grade, Lindsay West (21) returned 40 points to defeat Helen Amore (24) on 37. Val Luther-Bernau (30) took out B Grade with 36 points, edging Jo Lynch (29) on countback after both finished on 35. Di Schultz (40) delivered the round of the day with 44 points to comfortably win C Grade from Margaret Taylor (39) on 42. In the resort competition, Joan Thomson (18) scored 25 points to win, ahead of Sue Fox (22) on 22 countback.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday 1 April offered both stroke and Stableford formats for the men. Jason Bannister (10) posted an excellent nett 68 to win the stroke event from Wayne Richards (7) on 70. In Stableford, Gary Taylor (11) won A Grade on 38 points countback from James Webb (5). Bernie Hallinan (14) claimed B Grade with 37 points, just ahead of Bill Higgins (15) on 36 countback. Peter Willis (21) dominated C Grade with 45 points, well clear of Brad Walsh (21) on 40, while Lidio Ricci (30) took D Grade on 36 points countback from Michael Brady (24).<\/p>\n<p>Thursday 2 April saw another Stableford day. In the men\u2019s event, Blake Mios (4) won A Grade on 39 points countback from Doug McKenzie (15) and also recorded an eagle. Gwyn Askham (32) produced a standout 45 points to win B Grade, ahead of Darrel Brewin (31) on 37. In the women\u2019s competition, Jo Johnson (48) claimed victory on 36 points countback from Theresa Rose-Ham (38).<\/p>\n<p>Saturday 4 April delivered strong fields and scoring. In the men\u2019s Stableford, Ado Cations (2) led A Grade with 39 points, ahead of Patrick Mahony (10) on 37. Chris Fitzgerald (14) won B Grade with an impressive 42 points, with Andrew Franklin (12) runner up on 39. Sam Colman (19) took C Grade with 36 points from Nathan Edwards (16) on 34, while David Wilson (20) won D Grade on 38 points countback from Darrel Brewin (31). Eagles were recorded by Shuan Litaize and Darcy Ford, while Ross Forbes (23) won the resort event with 34 points. In the women\u2019s competition, Fiona Moran (24) produced 42 points to win from Yvonne Mazylis (29) on 39.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday 5 April rounded out the week with another Stableford. Phillip Withers (11) claimed A Grade on 36 points countback from Rian McKee (6), also on 36. Terry Lee (17) won B Grade with 39 points, ahead of Hayden Torney (18) on 37. Ian Convery (28) took out C Grade with 34 points, with Noah McKee (45) runner up on 33 countback. Eagles were recorded by Ado Cations, Brendan Murphy and Gerard Whitely.
