UPGRADED trails and strong numbers are setting the scene for a big day of racing on the Surf Coast next month, with riders set to tackle a refreshed course across multiple distances.<\/p>\n

The Shifty Fifty returns on 9 May, with organisers targeting more than 300 competitors across the 10km, 25km and 50km events.<\/p>\n

Event organiser Brett Coleman said recent works by the Surf Coast Mountain Bike Club \u2013 including upgrades to jumps, roll-overs and hill runs \u2013 would be immediately noticeable.<\/p>\n

“It’s a unique, fun and challenging route. It certainly makes sure riders have the best possible day on the bike,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The coastal hinterland offers some great views and sandy challenges along the way.”<\/p>\n

The event is the Surf Coast Mountain Bike Club’s major annual fundraiser, with proceeds directed back into maintaining the trail network and protecting the surrounding coastal environment.<\/p>\n

“We’d love to raise $10,000 \u2013 that’s been the ballpark figure over the last few years. We rely on having about 300 competitors to do that,” Coleman said.<\/p>\n

“Surf Coast Events has been a major supporter for us, and they really allow us to maximise those profits.<\/p>\n

“We’ll continue to work closely with them to build on what we can do for the trails long-term.”<\/p>\n

A post-race event village will follow, with Bells Beach Brewing and Chubby Bao.<\/p>\n
