THE Surf Coast Shire is considering a cycling-friendly upgrade of a major road in Anglesea, and locals have been asked to share their views.<\/p>\n

Camp Road connects the town’s shopping precinct, the Anglesea Primary School and Anglesea Bike Park.<\/p>\n

The shire wants feedback on two long-term options to make Camp Road safer and easier to walk, ride and move around the area.<\/p>\n

One option is to create protected bike lanes on the western (school) side, keeping the existing footpath.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, a wider shared path would be built on the western side from the town centre to Agnes Lane, which would then transition onto a section of protected on-road bike lane.<\/p>\n

Both options have different benefits, costs and impacts, including the loss of car parking.<\/p>\n

This project is in the planning stage and funding has not yet been secured for the construction of either option.<\/p>\n

Otway Range Ward councillor Mike Bodsworth said community input would play an important role in guiding the project.<\/p>\n

“Camp Road is an important route for local families, particularly students travelling to and from school and Anglesea Bike Path,” Cr Bodsworth said.<\/p>\n

“We want to make sure it is safe, accessible and comfortable for everyone, whether you’re walking, riding or using a mobility aid.”<\/p>\n

Cr Bodsworth said safer walking and cycling connections were a key priority for the council through its Safe Cycling Strategy.<\/p>\n

“Safer walking and cycling connections support healthier lifestyles, reduce traffic congestion and help create more connected communities,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It’s really important for kids to be able to get around independently.”<\/p>\n

“This is an opportunity for the community to have a say and help shape a project that will benefit Anglesea for years to come.”<\/p>\n

Locals are encouraged to review the two proposed options and provide their views to help inform the next stage of planning.<\/p>\n

Feedback is now open and closes on 27 April.<\/p>\n
