{"id":186531,"date":"2026-05-08T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=186531"},"modified":"2026-05-06T15:14:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T05:14:23","slug":"mikro-coffee-roasters-announces-major-sustainability-milestones-and-operational-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/mikro-coffee-roasters-announces-major-sustainability-milestones-and-operational-upgrades\/","title":{"rendered":"Mikro Coffee Roasters announces major sustainability milestones and operational upgrades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MIKRO Coffee Roasters has commenced the year with a series of significant advancements, reinforcing its commitment to quality, sustainability and community impact.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, Mikro successfully implemented new clean technology within its roasting facility, designed to manage roasting emissions and reduce gas consumption by over 50 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>This investment marks a major step forward in the company&#8217;s long-term environmental strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Further strengthening its quality assurance capabilities, Mikro welcomed Emma to the team.<\/p>\n<p>With an extensive background in coffee and specialised expertise in quality control, Emma is a certified Q grader, qualified to cup and score coffees to international standards.<\/p>\n<p>She joins head roaster Juwon \u2013 also a certified Q grader \u2013 to further elevate Mikro&#8217;s already rigorous quality control processes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/05\/Mikro_Bali-Origin_Tr_83573.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From a new Giesen roaster to the addition of a certified Q grader, Mikro is refining every step of its process while continuing to invest in sustainability and efficiency.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Building on this momentum, Fraser, production manager at Mikro, has undertaken a major equipment upgrade, retiring a Probat roaster in favour of a larger, more advanced Giesen coffee roaster.<\/p>\n<p>This transition is expected to deliver improved roasting consistency, enhanced efficiency and additional quality control precision throughout the production process.<\/p>\n<p>Mikro&#8217;s sustainability initiatives continue to expand, with the recent introduction of a fully electric delivery van and plans to install solar panels in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>These initiatives position the company on track to achieve its goal of becoming a net-zero business \u2013 an objective set two years ago to significantly reduce controllable operational emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond its operational achievements, Mikro Coffee Roasters remains deeply committed to community support.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past three years, the company has contributed more than $120,000 to local organisations, including Torquay Surf Life Saving Club, Surf Coast Wildlife Rescue, Surf Coast Environment Group, Bayleaf Kitchen, and through its role as an official coffee donor to Sea Shepherd Australia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/05\/Mikro_Brew-Meth-15_0_83528.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mikro Coffee Roasters is pushing forward on multiple fronts, cutting emissions, upgrading equipment and strengthening its quality control as it works toward a net-zero future.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mikro has pledged to donate 20 per cent of total profits generated from all coffee sales, reinforcing its ongoing investment in both environmental and community outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Customers can further support these initiatives by choosing to purchase from local cafes and stockists in Torquay, including Surfcoast Wholefoods, Doc Hughes, Bainz Torquay, The Kiosk, the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club kiosk, the Torquay Netball Club canteen, Bells Brewery and Flowstate Distillery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mikro Coffee Roasters extends its sincere thanks to its customers and partners for their continued support,&#8221;
