Batteries and e-waste should never go in kerbside bins due to fire risks and environmental harm, with lithium-ion batteries capable of igniting when crushed.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Shire councillor Leon Walker said the added locations made it simpler for residents to recycle responsibly.<\/p>\n
“By providing more accessible recycling options, we’re helping prevent harmful materials from entering landfill and protecting our local environment for future generations,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We know many people want to recycle the right way, but we get that convenience matters. These new locations will make it easier to take that extra step and recycle responsibly.”<\/p>\n
The new sites include Anglesea Community House, Deans Marsh Community Cottage, Feed Me Surf Coast, Lorne Foodworks, Torquay Community House, Torquay Library, Surf Coast Wholefoods, Winchelsea Community House and Wurdi Baierr Stadium, along with the Torquay residential waste drop-off site.<\/p>\n
Existing collection points at the transfer stations in Anglesea, Lorne and Winchelsea, and the council office in Torquay, remain available.<\/p>\n
