DARCY Giddings will represent Geelong on the international stage next month after earning selection in the Australian Athletics under-23 tour to Taiwan.<\/p>\n

Giddings was one of 30 athletes named in the squad for the New Taipei City Athletics Open, to be held on 6\u20137 June, where he will compete in the discus wearing the green and gold.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old is ranked 224th in the world and said his passion for throwing events began as a child.<\/p>\n

“My athletics journey started at Corio Little Athletics club when I was seven years old,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I took particular interest in the throwing events because I wasn’t overly flash in the running. Since then, I’ve been training hard, mainly in the discus, to get where I am today, still competing as part of Corio.”<\/p>\n

It will be the third time Giddings has been part of an Australian team, having competed in the Oceania Championships and World Under-20 Championships in 2022 and 2024.<\/p>\n

“I was wrapped with my selection for this upcoming event in Taiwan,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I’ll be there for about nine days to get some training in and get used to the hot and humid weather.”<\/p>\n

Giddings said his most recent international campaign \u2013 at the World Under-20 Championships in Peru \u2013 gave him confidence heading into the tour after he produced a personal best performance.<\/p>\n

“I know I can do it under pressure and it gave me good prep for comps like this coming up,” he said.<\/p>\n

“My goal for Taipei is to put a consistent series of throws out and hopefully come away with the win.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
