A NEWLY formed community working group has held its inaugural meeting to map out the environmental recovery of the Anglesea River.<\/p>\n
The Reimagining the Anglesea River and Estuary (RARE) group, established by the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA), brings together local residents, technical experts and regional partner agencies.<\/p>\n
Initial discussions focused on the critical challenges facing the estuary, including altered water flows, sedimentation, the impact of climate change and fluctuating water quality.<\/p>\n
Corangamite CMA project officer Ryan Bath said the group’s insights will play a vital role in shaping future management directions.<\/p>\n
“The establishment of this working group is a key milestone in ensuring the future of the Anglesea River and estuary is shaped collaboratively with the community,” he said.<\/p>\n
“This is just the beginning of the conversation.<\/p>\n
“The insights and contributions of the working group will play an important role in shaping future directions and ensuring outcomes reflect the values of the Anglesea community.”<\/p>\n
The group will meet monthly for the next six months, incorporating site visits, economic assessments and citizen science opportunities into their work program.<\/p>\n
