{"id":188417,"date":"2026-06-05T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=188417"},"modified":"2026-06-03T20:47:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T10:47:11","slug":"the-bellarine-teen-chasing-a-music-dream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/the-bellarine-teen-chasing-a-music-dream\/","title":{"rendered":"The Bellarine teen chasing a music dream"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">FIFTEEN-year-old Bellarine local Tom Morfitt-White is proving age is no barrier to chasing big dreams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The year 9 student has just released his debut single, Love Me Now, which was recorded in London last year, and is preparing to launch an EP in July.<\/p>\n<p>A lifelong pianist and natural storyteller, Tom said his songs can come from anywhere. &#8220;Sometimes they&#8217;ll be based on real events, or sometimes it will be me just coming up with a random story,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just like to sit at my piano, and I get a feel for the chords, and then the melody just comes to me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Music takes up most of his spare time, with Tom saying he is rarely far from the piano.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If I&#8217;m not at school and not playing music, I don&#8217;t really do much else,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/2026-06-0211.06.29_89212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tom Morfitt-White spends most of his free time writing and playing music. Photo: Matthew O&#8217;Donnell\/Hails + Shine.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m at the piano pretty much all the time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite his age, he is already beginning to establish himself in the professional music industry, something he says has long been a goal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d always dreamed of doing this,&#8221; Tom said. &#8220;I always knew in my own self that I had like the capability to, but I don&#8217;t think people really take you seriously as a kid.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it&#8217;s really important that kids should get a voice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>One of the tracks on his coming EP, Blood in the Night, tackles the serious issue of youth suicide and self-harm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it is really an important topic to talk about, especially since it is such a big deal,&#8221; Tom said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is hard seeing people you love go down that path.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tom hopes his music can help connect young people and the wider community.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/2026-06-0211.15.45_89156.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Love Me Now was partly filmed at St George\u2019s Anglican Church in Queenscliff.
