{"id":189415,"date":"2026-06-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=189415"},"modified":"2026-06-17T21:42:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T11:42:27","slug":"a-night-with-the-greatest-cat-power-books-geelong-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/living\/a-night-with-the-greatest-cat-power-books-geelong-return\/","title":{"rendered":"A night with The Greatest: Cat Power books Geelong return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AMERICAN singer-songwriter Cat Power will return to Geelong later this year, bringing one of the most acclaimed albums of the 2000s back to the stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The artist, whose real name is Chan Marshall, has announced a national anniversary tour celebrating 20 years of her landmark album The Greatest, including a performance at Costa Hall on 2 December.<\/p>\n<p>The tour will see Cat Power perform the album in its entirety, alongside a selection of songs from her extensive catalogue spanning more than three decades.<\/p>\n<p>Released in 2006 and recorded in Memphis with members of the legendary Hi Rhythm section, The Greatest marked a significant moment in Marshall&#8217;s career.<\/p>\n<p>The album, which blends Southern soul, folk and blues, earned widespread critical acclaim.<\/p>\n<p>In 2007, Marshall became the first woman to win the Shortlist Music Prize for the album.<\/p>\n<p>The Geelong show forms part of a broader Australian and New Zealand tour, which includes dates in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra and Perth.<\/p>\n<p>Joining Cat Power in Geelong will be acclaimed American folk-Americana singer-songwriter Courtney Marie Andrews as a special guest.<\/p>\n<p>The tour announcement coincides with the upcoming release of a 20th anniversary edition of The Greatest, which will feature a reissue of the album&#8217;s original artwork and a limited-edition pink vinyl pressing.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the Geelong performance go on sale from 9am on Friday 19 June.<\/p>\n<p>For more information or to grab tickets, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/lovepolice.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lovepolice.com.au<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AMERICAN singer-songwriter Cat Power will return to Geelong later this year, bringing one of the most acclaimed albums of the 2000s back to the stage.
