LABOR is fighting fire with fire in Armstrong Creek, also pledging to build a new fire station in the growth area if it wins this month’s state election.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Minister for Emergency Services James Merlino and Labor candidate for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman announced the pledge for a new $8.18 million three-bay fire station to be built in the area.<\/p>\n
The station will also include eight bedrooms as a base for 21 career staff to support surrounding volunteer firefighters.<\/p>\n
Labor already provided funding in the Victorian Budget 2018\/19 to purchase land for the new station, which will be located on the eastern side of Boundary Road at its intersection with Torquay Road.<\/p>\n
“We need to ensure our community has the facilities it needs to continue to thrive. That is why we will build a brand new fire station to ensure residents are safe,\u201d Mr Cheeseman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy properly funding the station, we will ensure this project is completed to meet this community\u2019s needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Labor’s pledge follows Opposition Leader Matthew Guy and South Barwon MP Andrew Katos’ visit to the site in June, where they committed $7.1 million towards construction of a new CFA and ambulance station if they formed government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
