NET zero operational emissions by 2030 is the headline commitment of a new sustainability strategy unveiled by GeelongPort.<\/p>\n
The port’s inaugural sustainability strategy outlines how it plans to reduce emissions, strengthen resilience to climate change and embed sustainability into future investment and operations over the next four years.<\/p>\n
As Victoria’s second-largest port, GeelongPort handles more than 13 million tonnes of cargo each year, supporting supply chains across the energy, tourism, construction and bulk commodity sectors.<\/p>\n
A key commitment is reaching net zero emissions from the port’s own operations and purchased electricity by 2030, while also working with customers, tenants and suppliers to reduce emissions across the broader supply chain.<\/p>\n
GeelongPort chief executive Brett Winter said sustainability is fundamental to the port’s future and the industries and communities it serves.<\/p>\n
“Our strategy reflects who we are as a regional port. We live here, we work here, and we are invested in the long-term future of this community,” he said.<\/p>\n
Chief legal and sustainability officer Stephanie Pickett said meaningful progress requires partnership.<\/p>\n
This strategy brings our customers, community and stakeholders with us on that journey,” Pickett said.<\/p>\n
