LOCAL creatives will be the star attraction at this weekend’s winter market in Aireys Inlet on Sunday 12 July.<\/p>\n

Anglesea local Lynne Hume is one of the Surf Coast’s newest stallholders set to feature at the market, with her quirky collection of handmade beach hoodies made using recycled and vintage towels.<\/p>\n

Joyfill Beach Gowns evolved from Hume’s firsthand experience as a local looking for a creative solution to getting changed at the beach for her daily ocean dip.<\/p>\n

“They are perfect to warm up after wintery dips and they become your own personal change room when the beaches are busy in summer,” Hume said.<\/p>\n

“Every beach hoodie is bespoke and a bit quirky. It’s like the towel chooses the person.”<\/p>\n

Hume has been sewing up a new winter collection with vintage and found towels for this weekend’s Aireys Inlet Market. When you wear them, she said, you can “feel the joyful spirit in which they were made”.<\/p>\n

Joshua James is another recent addition to the Aireys Inlet market family, sharing his unique collection of Aboriginal designs that tell the story of his culture and connection to the land.<\/p>\n

James is a proud Noongar Wardandi, Bibulmun Maaman from Noongar Boodja in the southwest of Western Australia.<\/p>\n

He grew up and lived most of his life on Noongar Boodja and has lived and worked in remote Aboriginal communities across the Northern Territory and Western Australia.<\/p>\n

He now lives on the Surf Coast with his young family.<\/p>\n

“I have a passion for culture and handing down my knowledge to my two children, ensuring that culture grows strong within them,” James said.<\/p>\n

“My stall includes some of my recent artwork as well as a range of homewares that I have painted with a story that everyone can use in their home.<\/p>\n

“Come drop in for a yarn about my artwork.”<\/p>\n

In addition to talented local creatives like Hume and James, more than 60 stallholders at the market offer everything from woollen beanies and tea cosies, to fiery chilli sauces and hot salami, along with international street food including Vietnamese giant spring rolls, Japanese tofu, Turkish gozleme and French crepes to warm the belly.<\/p>\n

The market operates from 9am to 1pm at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall on the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n
