{"id":191377,"date":"2026-07-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=191377"},"modified":"2026-07-09T13:04:34","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T03:04:34","slug":"lifetime-of-service-earns-hall-of-fame-honour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/lifetime-of-service-earns-hall-of-fame-honour\/","title":{"rendered":"Lifetime of service earns hall of fame honour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ALMOST five decades of dedication to surf boat rowing have earned a local surf lifesaving veteran the sport&#8217;s highest individual honour.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Juc&#8217;s Scott Tannahill has been inducted into the Australian Surf Rowers League Hall of Fame, becoming just the third Victorian to receive the recognition.<\/p>\n<p>Tannahill&#8217;s 49-year career has included success as a competitor, coach and mentor, along with decades of volunteer service across several Victorian surf life saving clubs.<\/p>\n<p>Tannahill said being inducted into the Hall of Fame was the greatest honour of his surf lifesaving career and paid tribute to the rowers, sweeps and coaches who had supported him along the way.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/07\/Photo4_88689.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scott Tannahill (middle) has represented Australia on two occasions. Photo: supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have had some incredible rowers and fellow sweeps and coaches who have helped me develop into the sweep that I am today,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am truly humbled to still be involved with the Anglesea SLSC and this upcoming season, I can&#8217;t wait to have some younger rowers thrive in and out of the boat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a competitor, Tannahill represented Victoria on 28 occasions and won 40 championship titles at state, national and international level.<\/p>\n<p>Internationally, he won world championship gold in 2004, bronze in 2006 and was selected in the 2016 Australian Surfboat Team.<\/p>\n<p>Away from competition, Tannahill has received 94 awards and accreditations, including life membership of Life Saving Victoria and the Victorian Surf Rowers League.<\/p>\n<p>He has also spent decades volunteering as an inflatable rescue boat driver at events including the Danger 1000, Pier to Pub and Rock2Ramp, while responding to after-hours emergency callouts.<\/p>\n<p>Surf Life Saving Australia has previously recognised his courage and professionalism with a Certificate of Merit with Bronze Insert for Bravery and an International Life Saving Certificate of Merit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/07\/Photo6_88678.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Soctt Tannahill has been a sweep for multiple surf clubs including the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club. Photo: supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>His son, Aaron Tannahill, the Victorian Surf Rowers League team manager, said his father&#8217;s greatest legacy extended beyond medals and championship titles.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Scott&#8217;s legacy is evident not only in medals and titles, but in the generations of surf rowers, sweeps, officials, and lifesavers who have benefitted from his knowledge, mentorship, and leadership,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He is still mentoring the younger sweeps and rowers across Australia to this day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club president David Marsh said the Hall of Fame induction reflected Tannahill&#8217;s lifelong commitment to surf lifesaving.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Scott&#8217;s Hall of Fame induction is a fitting recognition of a lifetime dedicated to surf lifesaving and surf boat rowing,&#8221; he said.&#8221;We are incredibly proud to have him as part of the Anglesea SLSC family and thank him for the lasting impact he continues to have on our members and the wider lifesaving community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ALMOST five decades of dedication to surf boat rowing have earned a local surf lifesaving veteran the sport&#8217;s highest individual honour.
