{"id":191585,"date":"2026-07-13T17:05:51","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T07:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/thousands-take-a-look-inside-nyaal-banyul\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T17:05:51","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T07:05:51","slug":"thousands-take-a-look-inside-nyaal-banyul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/thousands-take-a-look-inside-nyaal-banyul\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands take a look inside Nyaal Banyul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Geelong community has embraced its first opportunity to step inside Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with almost 6,000 people attending Saturday&#8217;s community open day.<\/p>\n<p>The centre officially opened at the start of the month and welcomed the public for a free community open day over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers expected about 5,000 visitors but almost 5,800 people came through the doors during the six-hour event.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors explored the venue&#8217;s 1,000-seat theatre, exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, conference facilities, flexible event spaces, cafes and the public Gheringhap Plaza, while enjoying live entertainment, local food and drinks, face painting and free family-friendly activities.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_133223\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-133223\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-133223\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/07\/nb-open-day-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-133223\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crowds enjoyed performances throughout the day in the 1,000-seat theatre. Photo: supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Regional flavours and products were also featured throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>Nyaal Banyul general manager Rick Aylett said the open day reflected the community&#8217;s pride and ownership in what he described as &#8220;Geelong&#8217;s venue&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Welcoming almost 6,000 people through our doors was an incredible milestone and demonstrates just how much excitement and anticipation there is for this venue across the Geelong and Bellarine community,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_133224\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-133224\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-133224\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/07\/nb-open-day-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-133224\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event was the first chance for the public to look inside the venue since its opening at the start of July.
