TORQUAY local Mack Smith is sporting a brand-new haircut, knowing his fresh look has made a real difference in the community.<\/p>\n

The 11-year-old shaved off his signature mullet last week, raising more than $3,300 for the Black Dog Institute.<\/p>\n

Mack had been growing the mullet since he was five years old before finally saying goodbye to it last week.<\/p>\n

Mack Smith began growing his mullet at the age of five and sported the look for six years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

He said the reaction when he returned to St Therese Primary School in Torquay for the start of term 3 was priceless.<\/p>\n

“I was sad to see it go, but the guys got at school got a good shock when I turned around. They thought it was pretty good,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It’s been with me for a very long time, but it’s felt really good to do something positive for mental health services.”<\/p>\n

Mack has already squeezed in a few surfs and a game of football without his famous locks, and said he was certainly feeling a bit lighter.<\/p>\n

“It’s a lot easier for me to get around and not have to worry about the hair,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been surfing a lot and when I go under it feels quite different. I’m also happy it’s not swinging in my eyes on the trampoline or on the bike anymore.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
