ONE of the competitors in the GKA Kite-Surf World Tour coming to Torquay next month will have the home ground advantage as he attempts to win not only the event but the tour itself and improve his ranking.<\/p>\n
The GKA Kite-Surf World Tour is an international competition that holds events in Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Cabo Verde, and \u2013 for the first time this year \u2013 Australia.<\/p>\n
The event at Point Danger will be the final stop of the season on the circuit where the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Champions of the Kite-Surf World Tour 2018 will be crowned.<\/p>\n
James Carew, ranked 10th in the world, hopes to fly the flag for Australia in kite surfing as he concludes his first full-time year on the international circuit.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really enjoying the international competition and being able to see the world, but it does get lonely being on the road for nine months of the year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
To have the final in my hometown of Torquay is awesome. I feel I will have the home ground advantage as I have surfed these waves for most of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carew has been surfing since he was three, and his uncle, who kitesurfs as a hobby, encouraged him to take up the sport eight years ago.<\/p>\n
Shortly after learning the sport, Carew found that he had a talent for kitesurfing and decided to pursue it professionally, and has been competing for the past five years.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am excited to be able to share my part of the world with the other competitors, and it will be a rush to have all of my friends and family cheering me on from the beach.\u201d<\/p>\n
The GKA Kite-Surf World Tour Final will be held in Torquay from December 12-16.<\/p>\n
