With Thee I Swing is the long awaited, debut album for Melbourne-based band The Georgia Brooks Swingtet.<\/p>\n
Recorded at Newmarket Studios, North Melbourne and engineered by Callum John Barter (Cat Empire, Courtney Barnett,
\nBritish India), the album took almost 12 months to complete and was painstakingly mixed and mastered by Isaac Barter (Guy Sebastian, The B# Big Band, Stephen Magnusson) and includes stellar artwork conceived and designed by Brady King.<\/p>\n
The Georgia Brooks Swingtet comprises Georgia Brooks (vocals), Kym Dillon (piano), Ben Calderazzo (guitar), Michelle Scully (double bass) and Sean Loughran (drums).<\/p>\n
To create the album, the group selected 11 hand-picked favourites from the 30s and 40s, including the well-known classics
\nSweet Lorraine, Mean To Me, Exactly Like You and On A Slow Boat To China as well as other compositions by some of Brooks\u2019 favourite composers: Duke Ellington, Jimmy McHugh and Fats Waller.<\/p>\n
The resultant recording has undoubted elements of humour, fun and energy. The dynamic interplay between members is always present and the album allows Georgia\u2019s rich vocals to shine, allowing listeners their first taste of what she does best \u2013 swing!<\/p>\n
A rising star in the Australian jazz scene, vocalist Georgia Brooks has spent the past 13 years studying, performing and teaching vintage jazz and swing dance and it was here that her love of swing era jazz was born. It was on the dance floor that Brooks met drummer Sean Loughran and the two decided to work together to create a band for their fellow swing dancers to enjoy.<\/p>\n
Since then The Georgia Brooks Swingtet has played numerous swing dances, concerts and jazz clubs, including the Paris
\nCat Jazz Club and Dizzy\u2019s Jazz Club, further expanding and developing their concert repertoire. Festival appearances include The Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Castlemaine Jazz Festival and Melbourne Swing Festival.<\/p>\n
The Georgia Brooks Swingtet is performing on Sunday November 11 between 3-6pm at the Torquay Bowls Club.<\/p>\n
