We extend a warm welcome to our new Principal at Lorne P-12 College, Mr Shane Elevato. Shane has worked in education in recent years in schools in the Geelong region and was recently the Assistant Principal at Newcomb Secondary College. The previous Principal, Karen Biggelaar, has accepted a position at a multi campus Special School in Ballarat. Shane says that when he saw the opportunity for the position as Principal at Lorne P-12 College, \u201cI jumped at the chance\u201d.<\/p>\n
Shane has worked in a number of school environments, including Government, Independent and Catholic.<\/p>\n
He believes that the Government Schools are the most willing to embrace change and considers it \u201ca privilege\u201d to now be in Lorne, which he sees as a true community school given the broad catchment is serves.<\/p>\n
Shane and his wife, Sam, have three children and whilst currently living in Geelong have plans to move down the coast. He believes that a school like Lorne P-12 must have a \u201cconnection to community\u201d. In his words, he would like to see Lorne P-12 perceived as a \u201cdestination school\u201d, offering a full VCE curriculum. He would like to see the school grow in a managed way so that individuals do not lose their identity and the growth does not erode the unique qualities of Lorne P-12. As part of fostering connection to community, Shane will be promoting the community, not just the parents of students, to visit the school to witness \u201clearning in action\u201d.<\/p>\n
This will be achieved through a series of open days where the community can actually see the teachers and students in the variety of learning environments that the school offers. Shane welcomes you to make contact to meet with him and discuss his plans for the future of Lorne P-12 college.
