WHILE best known for an impressive football career captaining Port Adelaide, Travis Boak said family was the inspiration behind his latest venture.<\/p>\n
Having grown up on the Surf Coast, Travis alongside his cousin Brent Dixon and Brent\u2019s wife Cherie have launched Rodgers Underwear from their home-base in Torquay, named in honour of Boak\u2019s late father Rodger.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe underwear came about through discussions between Cherie and I. We\u2019d been talking over the past five years about getting some sort of business going in the fashion industry,\u201d Travis said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love fashion and Cherie has experience through working at Rip Curl. There\u2019s so much clothing and t-shirts around and we thought there was a niche in the underwear market.\u201d<\/p>\n
The trio behind Rodgers Underwear are driven by the desire to create and deliver a label of the highest quality without the exorbitant price tag, something Travis said they\u2019ve achieved.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve had really good feedback from people all over Australia and internationally. The product is really good, we\u2019ve done two different styles (briefs and trunks) and are using modal cotton (a softer cotton) in both women\u2019s and men\u2019s,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey can\u2019t believe how comfortable it is, it\u2019s not something we\u2019ve whipped up overnight, hours and hours have gone into it.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur quality is right up there and we\u2019re right in that spot with regards to affordability, somewhere between Bonds and Calvin Klein.\u201d<\/p>\n
Travis said the name was a tribute to his father, an \u201ceveryday fun-loving man\u201d who dedicated his life to his family and left an ever-lasting legacy to the wider community, including the Torquay Football Club where he coached.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s dad\u2019s name and his values, the whole company is based on his values. The base of the business is in Torquay, we\u2019re a family brand and that\u2019s where we want to grow our products,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been fortunate enough to go into Myer in Adelaide and that\u2019s been really exciting. My sisters are really excited for us to create a brand and company based on mum and dad\u2019s values.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s really close to mum\u2019s heart and she\u2019ll be involved in the company moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
Travis said while football was his fulltime job, he was enjoying growing a business outside of\u00a0\u00a0the football world, one he was passionate about.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not wearing anything else now. As soon as we got the final product, I got so many pairs.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy whole wardrobe is full of them, I wouldn\u2019t go back to anything else and some of my team mates have said the same.\u201d<\/p>\n
