THE Torquay and District Historical Society will host an exclusive exhibition showcasing never-before-seen photographs which have been collected by a Torquay family since the 1850s.<\/p>\n
Now in the hands of Don Duffield, Don has offered his collection to the society to celebrate the origins of his family who arrived to the Torquay and Bellbrae area in 1852.<\/p>\n
Many of the photos are extremely rare, serving as a visual timeline exploring how Torquay has progressed since the white settlers first arrived in the 1840s.<\/p>\n
President of the society David Marshall said he\u2019s thrilled to welcome Don\u2019s collection to the space.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019s family have been in this area since the 1850s and he has been collecting the history for most of his life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cA man in his 80s, he has now decided to allow us the privilege of displaying his collection over the summer months on loan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis exhibition is not to be missed, particularly with the historic knowledge and attendance of Don Duffield on Sunday December 23.\u201d<\/p>\n
The exhibition officially opens on Sunday December 23 at 1pm until 4pm at the Torquay and District Historical Society \u2013 Torquay Old Police Station, 18 Price Street, Torquay.<\/p>\n
