In this newest superhero flick, we see a concept unfold that is quite popular in the comic book world: parallel universes.<\/p>\n
In one universe, there lives Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), a teenager from Brooklyn trying to deal with ordinary teenage dilemmas. That is, until he\u2019s bitten by a radioactive spider and gains super spider powers (sounds familiar).<\/p>\n
But, even with all this going on, the diabolical Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) creates a Super Collider that opens portals to various parallel universes.<\/p>\n
This brings Miles into contact with a number of other Spider Men and Women; from 1930s-inspired Spider-Man Noir (Nicholas Cage) to Spider-Woman aka Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld). Even Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), the original Spider-
\nMan, shows up.<\/p>\n
Now, Miles must work with his fellow spider superheroes to prevent his home from being destroyed.<\/p>\n
Instead of being cluttered, this film amazingly manages to balance Miles\u2019 personal journey with the multiverse shenanigans perfectly.<\/p>\n
There were plenty of interesting twists on familiar Spider-Man villains and for once we had a superhero protagonist
\nwhose parents weren\u2019t dead (hooray!).<\/p>\n
As a lead, Miles was certainly an interesting one, as his character longs to find what he wants to do, he just has no idea what that is.<\/p>\n
When the responsibilities of Spider- Man fall on Miles, you not only see him struggling with the weight of the role, but also his desire to succeed. You can\u2019t help but cheer during the scene where he swings through New York for the first time.<\/p>\n
Plenty of superhero films before have claimed to be comic books brought to life, but never has it been truer than in this film. From the dynamic art style to even the little yellow dialogue boxes for characters\u2019 thoughts, this really was a living comic book.<\/p>\n
