THE City of Greater Geelong will incorporate funding for a digital transformation project into the city\u2019s long-term financial plan.<\/p>\n
Last month, the council approved $20.5 million in funding over four years to develop a digital transformation program to replace all of the city\u2019s core business processes and supporting business applications.<\/p>\n
The project is anticipated to deliver savings of $33.7 million over 10 years, for a net benefit of $19.5 million.<\/p>\n
The digital transformation will align with the city\u2019s ICT strategy developed out of the EY Transformation Report that recognises an increasing community demand to get access to council services online.<\/p>\n
At the moment, many of the city\u2019s processes are paper-based and a number of online applications are ageing and outdated.<\/p>\n
The program will assess the City\u2019s existing online services and then look at developing automated online services that will:
\n\u2022 Improve community access to council
\n\u2022 Improve online access to council services
\n\u2022 Provide the community more options to engage with council
\n\u2022 Deliver quicker processing of service requests for the community
\n\u2022 Deliver an increased level and quality of service for a reduced cost, and
\n\u2022 Reduce risk by minimising manual processing.<\/p>\n
Digital transformation projects are also taking place across a number of other Victorian councils including the Surf Coast Shire, the City of Melbourne, City of Wyndham and the City of Mornington Peninsula.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a very important project for us to complete, and in a manner that meets the needs of our community and the organisation into the future,\u201d Geelong mayor Bruce Harwood said.<\/p>\n
