THE Surf Coast Relay for Life (R4L) is aiming to raise record funds for the Cancer Council this year.<\/p>\n
From now until the main activity at Polwarth Oval in Torquay North, the local R4L committee is enlisting teams and volunteers to raise funds and is well under way with its plans for the celebration and walk on March 15-16.<\/p>\n
According to R4L local chair Bob Tyler, there is still room for more teams to take part in what has become a great Surf Coast fundraising event.<\/p>\n
Suitable for families and people of all ages, Relay for Life includes community fundraising in the lead up to the main event
\nand activties, live entertainment, music and candle lighting ceremonies on the event day.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough we have many of our teams from past years registered for the 2019 event, we are calling out for more teams and local volunteers throughout the Surf Coast to get on board to help make it an inspiring Relay for Life event,\u201d Mr Tyler said.<\/p>\n
\u201cR4L is a local fundraising movement that empowers communities to come together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against cancer, while raising funds to continue the fight against this insidious disease.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have people dedicated to helping teams get into the swing of Relay for Life and to help them plan fundraising activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, there are very few of us who have not been touched by cancer in some way.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery day in the Surf Coast region people are diagnosed with cancer. That\u2019s why we are more determined than ever to make this a successful Relay for Life event.\u201d<\/p>\n
Several R4L teams are out and about rattling tins and running fundraising events, including at Torquay\u2019s Bunnings Warehouse on Saturday.<\/p>\n
