{"id":2189,"date":"2017-10-29T23:54:26","date_gmt":"2017-10-29T23:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=2189"},"modified":"2018-01-30T15:39:41","modified_gmt":"2018-01-30T04:39:41","slug":"surf-coast-groups-say-yes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/surf-coast-groups-say-yes\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf Coast groups say yes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PEOPLE from across the Surf Coast waved the rainbow flag this week, showing their support for marriage equality at events in Aireys Inlet and Torquay.<\/p>\n<p>About 50 people gathered outsider the post box in Aireys Inlet on Saturday to support people who were voting \u201cyes\u201d in the Australian marriage law postal survey, then moved on to the town\u2019s general store.<\/p>\n<p>In Torquay, Surf Coast Shire councillors David Bell, Libby Coker, Rose Hodge and Margot Smith organised a \u201cVote Yes\u201d gathering at Peppers The Sands Resort on Tuesday, which was attended by about 50 people.<\/p>\n<p>This event had a number of guest speakers, including Geelong for Marriage Equality convenor Sharyn Faulkner and Torquay activist Merrin Wake. \u201cMy husband and I have five children, four of them are married and one of them\u2019s not allowed to \u2013 and you know what, that really pisses me off,\u201d Mrs Faulkner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis debate\u2019s not just about marriage equality, it\u2019s not just about religion; as the No campaign would have us think.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis debate is definitely about human beings: my son, your sister, their cousins, mum\u2019s uncle and dad\u2019s brother.
