ONE of the classic American models will be a highlight of this Sunday\u2019s Torquay Rotary Motor Show.<\/p>\n
A large contingent of Chevrolet Corvettes and their owners from across the state have committed to appearing at the annual show, to be held at Elephant Walk on the Torquay foreshore, and will have their own feature class in the judging categories.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Corvettes will bring about 30 examples to the 2019 motor show \u2013 with members driving vehicles made between 1966 and 2006, including in the famous \u201cStingray\u201d styling \u2013 but club member Mark Andre said that was only a fraction of the Corvettes in Victoria.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019d be surprised at how many there are.\u201d The club will also hold its own fundraiser on the Saturday night and donate the proceeds to Rotary.<\/p>\n
Motor show organiser Greg Plumridge said Corvettes were well represented in previous years, and other Corvette-centric clubs that would be in attendance included Corvettes of Melbourne and Central Vic. Corvettes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re one of the real muscle cars.\u201d<\/p>\n
More than 400 diverse motor cars and motor cycles are expected to be on display along the Torquay foreshore at the motor show, which continues to be popular with families and spectators of all ages.<\/p>\n
Consistent growth of entries in the unrestored class of vehicles in recent years has encouraged the judging team to add more classes in the Unrestored category to allow for not just the \u201cbarn find\u201d or \u201coily rag\u201d vehicles, but also pre-1990 vehicles that have not undergone any restoration work.<\/p>\n
This year will also see the introduction of prepaid ticketing to enable faster processing of entrants and vehicles as they arrive at the show.<\/p>\n
Entry fees remain unchanged at $20 for car and driver, $5 for adults and free entry for children.<\/p>\n
The motor show is a fundraising project of the Rotary Club of Torquay, supported by the RACV and local traders, with proceeds to be used for local, national and international Rotary Health projects.<\/p>\n
Last year\u2019s event drew more than 400 vehicles and about 6,000 spectators, breaking all previous records and raising more than $20,000.<\/p>\n
