THE Torquay Surf Life Saving Club (TSLSC) is wrapping up yet another successful summer, boasting more than 1,317 members and a record number of 477 Nippers, who will be celebrated at this weekend\u2019s junior awards ceremony.<\/p>\n
Club president Tiffany Quinlan said the TSLSC had been a hive of activity over the holiday season, highlighting the important safety work carried out by the club\u2019s dedicated volunteers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe buzz around the entire club is contagious and I would like to think that it continues and grows to become an epidemic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the morning swim crew coffee club to the 477 nippers smiling their way through the summer holiday program, to the senior section and patrol groups keeping our beaches safe, there has been a wave of enthusiasm.\u201d<\/p>\n
New initiatives such as the Stoop Canteen were a hit with beachgoers, as well as the club\u2019s series of summer nights, which generated a positive response from locals in the community.<\/p>\n
Ms Quinlan also said that although the club\u2019s building committee is yet to receive government funding, development plans for the TSLSC building are under way.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe committee continues to work with all levels of government and relevant bodies to lobby for funding to ensure the ageing building remains fit for purpose,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cA consultation process will be announced soon, so stay tuned to have your say.\u201d<\/p>\n
The club averaged close to 300 children on the beach per day and welcomed 26 new Bronze Medallion qualified surf lifesavers at its annual \u201cBronze Camp\u201d.<\/p>\n
