Hard to comprehend but the last week of summer has finished the same way it started, brilliant weather patterns and large numbers around the entire coast. The Lorne beach was standing room only, a blaze of color and echoes of support and good times last weekend as the 1500 odd junior competitors made the Lorne beach their competition arena for the weekend.<\/p>\n
Many envisage that the Junior Life Saving movement doesn\u2019t attract the interest of the older generations but how wrong could we be. On Saturday at the Lorne Surf Club, Henry Love and Don Stewart made a surprise guest appearance to support the local club that has been such a large part of their lives. Both gentlemen were part of the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club\u2019s first ever Bronze medallion squad.<\/p>\n
Both men have had a lifetime time around the Lorne Surf Club being a past club captain and president respectively, both Life Members and both having illustrious competitive careers for the black and white caps of Lorne. Henry as a very strong ocean swimmer, leading the Lorne Belt and Reel swim team and a strong oarsman, while Don and his double surf ski partner, the late Ian Hunt, had great success on the State and National scene.<\/p>\n
To see the image of the two great mates on the deck of the Surf Club for the opening day of the Junior Victorian Titles was a fitting start to the event and pulled into perspective what the life saving movement means to so many. But even more amazing is the knowledge that not only did these twolegendary gentlemen sit together in their early Lorne School years of the late 1930\u2019s but also the fact that both their fathers experienced the same a generation earlier \u2013 gold on every front!<\/p>\n
Speaking of gold, have you heard about the Lorne Angling and Aquatic Club (LAAC) latest Community event? After having registered the name \u201cThe World\u2019s Best Sausage Roll\u201d our active local club is running the sausage roll competition over the Queen\u2019s Birthday long weekend in June and up for grabs is the gold medal and the bragging rights that will go with title. Running parallel to the event there will be a separate condiments section with the best homemade relish, chutney and
