THE Andrews Labor Government has opened registrations for the 11th annual Premier\u2019s Active April campaign, a monthlong event encouraging community members to get moving and engage in a healthier lifestyle.<\/p>\n
Minister for tourism, sport and major events Martin Pakula is calling on Victorians of all ages, abilities and fitness levels to participate in 30 minutes of physical activity per day during April, an achievable recommendation set by the Department of Health.<\/p>\n
\u201cActive April is a great opportunity to discover exercise that we can fit into our daily routines – whether it\u2019s making the most of your time on the sidelines or getting off the bus, tram or train early to walk the rest of the way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The event has seen great success since the Labor Government first introduced the program back in 2008, with a record 124,913 Victorians taking on the challenge last year, including more than 5,000 teams and 2,000 families.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s challenge is focussing on families and the importance of setting a positive example to children about the benefits of staying active, with parents asked to get off the sidelines and become more involved in their children\u2019s sporting activities.<\/p>\n
Registrations for Premier\u2019s Active April is free and includes 10 free YMCA gym passes or access to a participating local government facility, as well as fitness incentives and discounts.<\/p>\n
Participants will also have access to the \u201cGet Active Workouts\u201d video series through an app which features 30 different 10 minute workout ideas.<\/p>\n
