THE hope of people who are cancer sufferers, carers, or relatives and friends of those touched by cancer, will see their hope turned into action tomorrow (Friday, March 15) at Polwarth Oval in Torquay North.<\/p>\n
To mark the beginning of the 2019 Surf Coast Relay for Life walk, 14 teams of walkers will begin an overnight relay ending on Saturday at 1.30pm.<\/p>\n
Torquay people are invited to attend the event to show their continuing support for the fight against cancer.<\/p>\n
Local Relay for Life chair Bob Tyler is looking forward to a highly successful event after months of hard work by the teams and his committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cFriday evening is a special time for the Surf Coast community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer, and we will recognise the work of the relay teams in raising funds to turn hope into action in the continuing fight against cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe opening ceremony will welcome our relayers and celebrate the beginning of the relay, from 6.45pm Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the opening ceremony, the letters of HOPE will be unveiled to reveal the art of students from four Torquay schools.\u201d<\/p>\n
This will be followed by the Candlelight Ceremony, a time to remember those lost to cancer and to show support for those living with cancer.<\/p>\n
Candle bags, which are available to purchase before the Candlelight Ceremony at 8pm, will line the track inscribed with personal messages of love and support.<\/p>\n
Following the candlelight ceremony everyone is invited to take part in a reflective lap of the track, illuminated only by the candle bags.<\/p>\n
The first lap honours all cancer survivors and carers.<\/p>\n
There will be entertainment, food stalls and activities for everyone throughout the relay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
