THE Torquay Hockey Club is supporting VicHealth\u2019s This Girl Can Vic campaign, and is encouraging women across the region to get involved.<\/p>\n
A big part of not trying new activities or getting involved in sport is a fear of being judged, or not being fit enough to start. Twice as many women than men put off getting active because they\u2019re worried about what other people think.<\/p>\n
This Girl Can Vic is a campaign that celebrates and supports women embracing physical activity in a way that suits them. Whether it\u2019s a little or a lot, what matters is getting some movement into your day.<\/p>\n
Cayley Reeves is an example of the This Girl Can campaign to get women back into sport and physical activity in a club environment. Out of the game for three years to focus on being a mum, Ms Reeves is excited to be returning to hockey.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a mum, you sacrifice a lot. The female body is such an incredible thing, to be able to produce another life, however our bodies do change and so does our lifestyle,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think as a new mum it\u2019s so important to make time for yourself and do something that makes you happy – for me that\u2019s playing hockey.<\/p>\n
\u201cHockey has always been a huge part of my life. After a few years away from hockey and the move from Melbourne to Torquay in 2015, I decided I wanted to play again.<\/p>\n
\u201cI instantly felt like I was part of the Torquay Tornadoes family and was welcomed with open arms.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Torquay Tornadoes are encouraging anyone from the local community to join them for training at Stead Park in Geelong on Wednesday, March 27 from 6-7.30pm.<\/p>\n
The club is also seeking new players to join the club for the 2019 season, and is specifically looking for female goalkeepers. There will be opportunities for you to train with the team to learn the skills of a goalkeeper (or a player on the field) in a supportive team environment.<\/p>\n
