The National Library of Australia is now taking applications to the 2019 \u201cCommunity Heritage Grants\u201d (CHG) program, which provides financial assistance of up to $15,000 to community groups.<\/p>\n
Designed to help preserve and manage locally stored cultural heritage collections, community organisations such as libraries, archives, museums, indigenous and multicultural groups, genealogical and historical societies from inner cities to remote parts of Australia are each eligible for the grants.<\/p>\n
The collections, which have been described as \u201cnationally significant\u201d, include a range of materials from archival records, oral histories and textiles through to paintings, drawings, photographs and objects.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese grants assist community heritage groups to carry out the work required to document, preserve and provide access to these collections through expert guidance and financial assistance,\u201d said Dr Marie- Louise Ayres, director general of the National Library of Australia.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst time recipients are invited to Canberra to receive their grant and enhance their skills and knowledge which they can take back to their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The CHG is funded by the federal government through the Department of Communications and the Arts.<\/p>\n
