	{"id":23423,"date":"2019-03-21T10:42:01","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T23:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=23423"},"modified":"2019-03-21T10:42:01","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T23:42:01","slug":"fishing-report-march-21-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/fishing-report-march-21-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"FISHING REPORT &#8211; March 21, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANGLESEA<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb Salmon are still being reported off local beaches<br \/>\n\u00bb Pinkies continue to be caught by those who are getting out<br \/>\n\u00bb Reports of a few flathead being caught<br \/>\n\u00bb Some small tuna have been caught<br \/>\n\u00bb Also reports of some kingfish<br \/>\n\u00bb Some whiting are being caught but in general are still scarce<\/p>\n<p><strong>BARWON HEADS<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb Reports from Barwon Heads are snapper and pinkies off shore<br \/>\n\u00bb The occasional gummy<br \/>\n\u00bb Reports of flathead catches as well<br \/>\n\u00bb The usual reports from the river of whiting, trevally, and salmon<br \/>\n\u00bb Salmon still being caught off most Local beaches<\/p>\n<p><strong>TORQUAY<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb Reports of King George whiting being caught in close<br \/>\n\u00bb Reports of pinkies and snapper continue offshore<br \/>\n\u00bb Reports of flathead are still being received<br \/>\n\u00bb Reports that squid are also still being caught offshore<br \/>\n\u00bb Still reports of some gummy shark<br \/>\n\u00bb Salmon being caught off local beaches<br \/>\n\u00bb Bream being caught in Spring Creek.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUEENSCLIFF<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb St Leonards has reports of King George whiting &#8211; flathead, pinkies and calamari continue<br \/>\n\u00bb Clifton Springs has plenty of really small baby pinkies being reported, catches of whiting and flathead and Calamari continue along with the occasional gummy shark catch<br \/>\n\u00bb Queenscliff has reports of whiting, flathead, salmon, calamari as well as a few pinkies continuing<br \/>\n\u00bb Outside the heads, reports of bluefin being sighted are still coming in<br \/>\n\u00bb The creek has reports of trevally, salmon along with some mullet<br \/>\n\u00bb The mouth of Swan Bay continues to produce calamari, salmon, flathead and some small whiting<br \/>\n\u00bb Point Lonsdale has trevally, some whiting along with some nice salmon as well as a few pinkies, snapper and calamari<br \/>\n\u00bb The White Lady; has reports of Whiting, Pinkies and Calamari and the odd Gummy shark<br \/>\n\u00bb Indented heads has reports of Snapper, Pinkies, Gummy shark, Flathead, King George Whiting, and some Squid as well<\/p>\n<p><strong>PUMP UP THE BASS<\/strong><br \/>\nFor those interested in a trip to Sale you will now find that Lake Guthridge has a substantial more bass in the lake than previously held after a Restocking of the lake via fisheries giving a real boost to the number of bass present,<\/p>\n<p>Lake Guthridge has been stocked with an extra 875 Australian bass fingerlings to provide more freshwater fishing opportunities for families keen to cast a line.<\/p>\n<p>This new additional stocking complements 15,000 Australian bass that have been released into Lake Guthridge since 2017 and regular second and third term school holiday stockings of ready to catch rainbow trout.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian Fisheries Authority chief executive officer Travis Dowling said the stocking was funded by recreational fishing licence fees and the State Government\u2019s $27 million Target One Million plan, which aims to get more people fishing, more<br \/>\noften and boost participation to one million anglers by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA recent survey of the lake has shown that stocked bass are doing well, with some fish reaching 20cm in just a few years,\u201d Mr Dowling said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to build on this success and provide mums, dads, and kids with even more opportunities to spend quality time together chasing bass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year we stocked a record six million fish and thanks to the government\u2019s ongoing commitment to recreational fishing, we\u2019ll be increasing that to 10 million fish by 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is good news for everybody who loves fishing in Victoria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Dowling said the bass fingerlings stocked in Lake Guthridge will take about three years to reach a catchable size of 27cm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLake Guthridge has what it takes to become a great mixed fishery that provides year-round angling.
