IT WAS game on in more ways than one at Spring Creek Recreation Reserve at the weekend, with the opening of a new $722,000 netball pavilion coinciding with the first game of the season.<\/p>\n
Players, umpires and supporters from opposing sides Torquay and Geelong Amateur gave the new facility a big tick during its first real test.<\/p>\n
The pavilion features two player change rooms, umpire change rooms, wheelchair accessible toilet amenities, a canteen with kitchen facilities, first aid room, storage area and undercover shelter.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new pavilion provides a safe, functional facility that offers players, officials and spectators a more enjoyable playing and viewing experience overall,\u201d Surf Coast Shire mayor Rose Hodge said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is expected to result in increased membership and profitability for the club, and to enhance community use.\u201d<\/p>\n
The council provided $372,000 towards construction costs, the federal government provided $200,000 through its Community Development Grants Program, and the Victorian Government provided $100,000 through its Female Friendly Facilities program<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a fabulous outcome for local netball players and fans across the region. I\u2019d like to thank the federal and state Government for helping to make the pavilion a reality,\u201d Cr Hodge said.<\/p>\n
Ms Henderson said the new clubroom would also provide facilities for other community activities.<\/p>\n
