THE Torquay Lions Club has confirmed its support for Foundation 61, presenting $10,000 to the Mount Duneed rehabilitation centre in the second year of the partnership between the two organisations.<\/p>\n
Torquay Lions president Tricia Blane said the funding was money well spent as it supported at least two clients at Foundation 61 while they rebuilt their broken lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are now 15 participants in Foundation 61\u2019s program.<\/p>\n
\u201cTorquay Lions greatly appreciate the work done at Foundation 61 and we are proud to be able to help in some way.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have committed the club to support the centre for at least another three years.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the end of that time we will review our commitment and consider further support then.\u201d<\/p>\n
Foundation 61 program director Rob Lytzki is grateful for support from the community, and praised the Torquay Lions Club for its support of those who have drifted from mainstream society.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir situation has come about mainly from drugs and alcohol, but not exclusively,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause of the Torquay Lions\u2019 continuing support, we are able to provide services to 15 participants and provide accommodation to two of them in rooms funded by the Lions.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is Torquay Lions\u2019 annual gift that enables us to cover the accommodation costs of two participants, which then enables us to provide programs to all that we can manage at any one time.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the money was not the only commitment from the Torquay Lions that helped.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs well as the annual donation, we were able to provide a large outdoor pizza oven for our participants with funds raised from the community at the Lions\u2019 Annual Bowls Day.<\/p>\n
