Torquay\u2019s WHR Allied Health is hosting its annual training day on Friday May 3 at Torquay\u2019s Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre (KMCC) to promote the safety and wellbeing of staff and clients.<\/p>\n
WHR Allied Health provides National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) allied health support to the local community as well as one-on-one care in \u201ccomplex\u201d home environments, services that managing director Brad Dent said \u201cwarrant\u201d the program.<\/p>\n
The training day will cover three main areas including mental illness, child protection and management of violence and aggression.<\/p>\n
WHR Allied Health has a team of nine occupational therapists and 23 therapy assistants who work out of the Torquay office in the Surf City Plaza. Each team member will be attending the training at KMCC.<\/p>\n
Each therapy assistant is an OT student from Deakin University, with three new graduates offered employment at the conclusion of their studies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe majority of our staff are under 25-years-old, so ensuring that they\u2019re well equipped to manage some of these
\npotentially complex situations aids in their capacity to appropriately handle them at the time,\u201d WHR Allied Health managing director Brad Dent said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt also ensures that they\u2019re well supported after the incident\/s and are able to remain happy in their work roles.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first session will be presented by Jules Haddock from GenU and will focus on understanding and supporting mental illness.<\/p>\n
