A WAR memorial in Winchelsea has received a useful funding boost courtesy of the state government.<\/p>\n
Late last month, Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced $30,000 would go to the Surf Coast Shire for the Winchelsea Memorial Park and Interactive Map Project.<\/p>\n
The grant was approved as part of the Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Grant Program, which goes to restoring community war memorials, honour rolls and avenues of honour.<\/p>\n
The Winchelsea Memorial Park and Interactive Map Project provides both physical and web-based space for education, contemplation and reflection upon the sacrifice made by Australia\u2019s servicemen and servicewomen in the birthplace of the nation\u2019s first Victoria Cross recipient, Captain Albert Jacka.<\/p>\n
It is one of 10 projects that were funded through the program, sharing a total of $104,718. Along with the Victoria Remembers Programs, the funding is part of almost $420,000 that will go to support veterans\u2019 initiatives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWinchelsea has many veterans who have served us proud and we\u2019re helping ensure their stories are never forgotten,\u201d Ms Tierney said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re working hard to protect the legacy of our veterans and pass it on to future generations because that is the right thing to do \u2013 veterans deserve our respect and support\u201d<\/p>\n
Minister for Veterans Robin Scott said Australia\u2019s veterans fought for our shared values, and remembering their stories reminded us of the importance of a diverse and inclusive Victoria.<\/p>\n
