	{"id":25041,"date":"2019-05-08T13:27:43","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T03:27:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=25041"},"modified":"2019-05-09T07:17:13","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T21:17:13","slug":"committee-for-lorne-lorne-sculpture-biennale-is-set-to-return-in-2020-with-a-new-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/committee-for-lorne-lorne-sculpture-biennale-is-set-to-return-in-2020-with-a-new-model\/","title":{"rendered":"Committee for Lorne: LORNE SCULPTURE BIENNALE IS SET TO RETURN IN 2020 WITH A NEW MODEL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The event will be even more impressive in 2020 from October 17 to November 8.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen commissioned artists will be engaged in 16 precincts along Lorne\u2019s iconic coastline to reflect and interpret Lorne\u2019s rich and diverse coastal identity.<\/p>\n<p>The event will bring together international and Australian artists, who will each be asked to respond to a brief on one of the defined spaces or \u201cprecincts\u201d along the foreshore.<\/p>\n<p>Artists will be encouraged to work with the Artistic Director, Graeme Wilkie, (whom you will know from Qdos Arts), to create new experiences highlighting the diverse influences and identities that make Lorne a fascinating place where human activity has intersected with its environment and geology.<\/p>\n<p>Lorne Sculpture Biennale (LSB) has been a successful part of Lorne\u2019s cultural history for over 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by comments from visitors to the 2018 exhibition, this new concept will enhance the natural beauty of Lorne<br \/>\nthrough sculptural creations which will reflect how people have occupied this landscape through time.<\/p>\n<p>Selected artists will be expected to produce multiple works for their precinct<br \/>\nfor sale to the art buying public.<\/p>\n<p>Recently the Lorne Sculpture Biennale concept was launched over Easter with Graeme Wilkie, ably supported by new manager Leon Walker, who presented his views on what will make the next biennale so exciting. This time round Graeme is personally commissioning artists to reflect and interpret Lorne\u2019s rich and diverse identity.<\/p>\n<p>Artists will be asked to highlight the diverse influences that make Lorne unique \u2013 namely its natural environment,<br \/>\nand its history as a vibrant social and economic place to live, work and holiday.<\/p>\n<p>They will be engaged to fill the foreshore with original sculptures that delight those who visit the displays.<\/p>\n<p>Each precinct will become a transformed space. Artists will take ownership of their precinct to create a<br \/>\nnew experience.<\/p>\n<p>The most creative minds will be engaged to:<br \/>\n\u2022 Excite<br \/>\n\u2022 Dare<br \/>\n\u2022 Provoke<br \/>\n\u2022 Astonish<\/p>\n<p>Invited artists will be asked to:<br \/>\n\u2022 be aware of the balance between cultural benefits and the use of world resources.<br \/>\n\u2022 be conscious and respectful of the Lorne environment.<br \/>\n\u2022 create site specific works to animate \u2018real time\u2019 stories.<\/p>\n<p>We have a strong team working to bring the 2020 Lorne Sculpture Biennale to you, comprising Sandra McComb (President), Graeme Wilkie OAM (Vice President and Artistic Director), Karen Pitt (Secretary), Bruce Potgieter (Treasurer), Janet Barton, Peter Spring, Graeme Williams OAM and Leon Walker (new manager).<\/p>\n<p>Although the Lorne Sculpture Biennale (LSB) begins in October next year, the committee faces a complex task of weaving a business around preparation for the event.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an exciting time with artists now being commissioned and rebranding underway (including the website).<\/p>\n<p>Partnerships are growing and funding is being sourced as a priority to make LSB successful.
