MORE than $88,000 will be provided to 23 local volunteer organisations in the Greater Geelong area through federal government grants.<\/p>\n
Corangamite Liberal federal member Sarah Henderson said local volunteer organisations that support community, sporting and environmental groups throughout the region would benefit from the grants as part of her government\u2019s Volunteer Grants initiative.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe grants, of up to $5,000, allow organisations to purchase small equipment items, or contribute to the cost of training courses, volunteer background checks or transport.<\/p>\n
Volunteers contribute so much to our community and I am pleased the recipients this year include youth community groups, sporting clubs, land care groups, and local charities.<\/p>\n
\u201cVolunteering is more than giving up time \u2013 the women and men of these organisations often contribute their heart and soul to support community groups.\u201d<\/p>\n
The organisations that will receive funding are:

\n\u2022 Leopold Community and Learning Centre
\n\u2022 Leopold War Memorial Committee
\n\u2022 Lorne Community Connect
\n\u2022 Lorne Football and Netball Club
\n\u2022 Ocean Grove and District Men\u2019s Shed
