LABOR\u2019S candidate for Corangamite pledged tens of millions of dollars for the Great Ocean Road on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Should she be elected and her party form government following this Saturday\u2019s poll, Libby Coker said a Shorten Labor Government would invest $53 million over the next two years to protect and upgrade the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m local. I\u2019ve lived in Aireys Inlet for 30 years. I know the road and the issues it\u2019s facing well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis money will go towards making sure the road is well maintained and safe for visitors and locals to use.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Coker said a Shorten Labor Government would work closely with the state Andrews Labor Government, local councils and tourism authorities to make sure the region can not only handle existing tourism demand but drive growth in the sector to create more jobs, economic activity and protect the Great Ocean Road from climate change.<\/p>\n
Federal Labor\u2019s commitment will match funding from the Andrews Labor Government and see a $106 million investment in the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n
Ms Coker said the money would also oversee roadwork upgrades on the inland links from Winchelsea to Lorne and Forest to Apollo Bay to improve access to the Great Ocean Road from the Princes Highway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
