A FLAGSHIP hospital for Torquay could be made possible under a Labor government after opposition leader Bill Shorten pledged $15 million towards its establishment on his visit to Geelong last week.<\/p>\n
Labor candidate for Corangamite Libby Coker said the Torquay Community Hospital would enable locals to receive medical treatment closer to home.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Torquay Community Hospital will make it easier for families, patients, carers and clients to access services such as women\u2019s health, diagnostics including pathology, and chronic disease management without having to travel to Geelong.\u201d<\/p>\n
State Member for South Barwon Darren Cheeseman said he welcomed Bill Shorten\u2019s commitment to invest in the Torquay Community Hospital, which was also a commitment put forward by the Andrews Labor Government during last year\u2019s state election.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re already investing to give our local families the healthcare they can count on and can\u2019t wait to work with a Shorten Labor Government to give patients even better care,\u201d Mr Cheeseman said.<\/p>\n
The hospital will include local services such as mental health, specialist appointments, chemotherapy, dialysis, chronic disease management, alcohol and drug services; and after-hours care.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
