SISTER Patricia \u201cPat\u201d Fox visited Torquay\u2019s Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre on Friday May 10 to host an occasional lecture organised by U3A Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
About 70 people piled in to hear Sister Pat speak,nwith many non U3A members taking the opportunity to learn of the Australian icon\u2019s story.<\/p>\n
Sister Pat spoke of her time in the Philippines and how she was deported back to Australia last year on charges of \u201cdisorderly conduct\u201d after finding herself in a dangerous situation with Philippine President Duterte.<\/p>\n
U3A president John Bartlett said Sister Pat\u2019s lecture attracted one of the largest audiences the program has seen since its inception.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe (Sister Pat) spent most of her nearly 30 years in the Philippines working for the rights of workers, farmers and students and a number of her own friends and co-workers have been the victims of extra-judicial killings,\u201d Mr Bartlett said.<\/p>\n
